Rocking Kindness for Kindness Day 2024

Celebrating Kindness Day with Kindness Rocks

Every year on 13th November, we celebrate Kindness Day—a global reminder of the power of small, thoughtful acts that uplift and inspire. Originating in 1998, World Kindness Day was introduced by the World Kindness Movement, an organisation dedicated to promoting kindness across nations. This special day encourages us to reflect on the importance of kindness in our communities and daily lives.

At WAG, kindness is one of our core values. It means showing respect, compassion, and generosity towards everyone we meet. This aligns perfectly with the Kindness Rocks Project, an initiative that combines creativity, mindfulness, and community connection.

What Is the Kindness Rocks Project?

In 2020, Megan Murphy, a mum from Cape Cod in the US, launched the Kindness Rocks Project. Her idea was simple yet impactful: paint uplifting messages or artwork on smooth rocks and leave them for others to find. These unexpected treasures carry messages of hope and encouragement, reminding people that even small gestures can make a big difference.

Murphy describes the project as "the art of connection," emphasising how these tiny acts of kindness link us to others and help us reconnect with ourselves.

Why Painting Rocks Boosts Wellbeing

Painting and decorating rocks isn’t just about spreading joy to others—it’s also a mindful, therapeutic activity. The process encourages focus, creativity, and calm, helping people tune out distractions and immerse themselves in the present moment. It's a perfect way to slow down, reduce stress, and create something meaningful.

How to Get Involved

Getting started is easy:

  1. Find a smooth rock. This can be a relaxing activity in itself, especially if you explore a local park or beach.

  2. Paint and decorate. Use bright colours, inspiring quotes, or simple drawings.

  3. Hide your rocks. Place them in parks, community gardens, or other public spaces for others to find.

Invite friends, family, or your local community to join you. Together, you can create a wave of kindness, one rock at a time. For inspiration, check out this video from the Kindness Rocks Project.

Share the Love

We’d love to see the messages of kindness you create! Share photos of your decorated rocks on social media or with your friends and neighbours. Remember, one message at just the right moment can change someone’s entire day—or even their life.

At WAG, we are committed to empowering people to thrive and connect through inclusive communities. This Kindness Day, let’s spread compassion and creativity, reminding everyone that small acts of kindness can lead to big, positive change.

Join the movement. Start your Kindness Rocks journey today and make a difference in your community!
