National Carers Week 2024: Recognising the Carers in our Lives

National Carers Week 13th – 19th October

National Carers Week is an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and raise awareness about Australia's 2.65 million carers.

Did you know?

More than one in ten Australians are carers. They make an enormous contribution to our community as well as our national economy. They love and care for their friends and family members.

Wellness Australia Group Carers Week 2024

They have to juggle work and child-care commitments….as well as look after other family members and keep their homes running. It’s a marathon every single day!

Take a minute to watch our carers’ stories:

This is Jasmine’s Story: Jasmin cares for her eight-year-old son Luke who has non-verbal autism. At first, Jasmin did not identify herself as a carer. She took on her caring role due to a sense of family responsibility. Her story makes a difference. She is making life better. https://youtu.be/6Mk1GpO2g80

This is Bob’s story: Two months after their wedding, Bob’s wife had a brain tumor removed that changed her forever. His story is one of resilience, perseverance and hope. https://youtu.be/zqAb0drUF7A

On the Carers Qld website, there are many more inspirational stories about ordinary Australians who have risen to the challenge of becoming an unpaid carer for a loved one. Watch them here: https://carersqld.com.au/resources/carer-stories/

Millions of Reasons to Care…

Carers make an enormous contribution to our communities as well as our national economy. They are our ‘unsung heroes’.

Many carers combine paid work and looking after a family with caring for someone with a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who is frail-aged.

If they didn’t take up this challenge to help their loved ones, who would do it?

Here’s what you can do to help - make a buzz on social media!

You can motivate your friends and family to engage in online discussions, post pictures and share updates and information about the carers they know on National Carers Week.

• Like and share the Carers Australia pages on Facebook and Instagram.

• Tag a friend and encourage them to join the “Millions of Reasons to Care’’ during National Carers Week.

• Share your photos and videos to tell the world about: ‘Millions of Reasons to Care’.

Spread the word about our unsung heroes. Jump onboard to invite a few friends over for coffee and cake…or organise a fundraiser of your choice and give a shout to the carers who keep their families and the country running.

Thank you for caring for our carers.
