At Wellness Australia Group (WAG), we believe mental health is a cornerstone of overall wellness, and we’re proud to stand alongside global and local efforts to raise awareness and support for mental health.
World Mental Health Day – 10th October 2024
World Mental Health Day’s primary aim is to increase awareness about mental health issues worldwide and to mobilize support for those affected. Mental illness impacts 1 in 5 Australians every year, with approximately 5 million people experiencing symptoms. Yet, 60% of those people won’t seek help—a statistic that underscores the importance of breaking down barriers and creating supportive environments. At WAG, we’re committed to doing just that through our services, programs, and community outreach.
Queensland Mental Health Week – 5th to 13th October 2024
This year, the theme for Queensland Mental Health Week is “Connect for mental health.” It's a call to action for all Queenslanders to strengthen their connections with themselves, their communities, and their environment—because mental health is something we all play a part in. At WAG, we embrace this theme wholeheartedly, fostering an inclusive and supportive atmosphere across all our programs and services, designed to help our clients and communities flourish.
Here’s how you can “Connect for mental health” during this week:
Connect with self: Take time for yourself, focus on self-care, do things you enjoy, make healthy choices, and seek help when needed. At WAG, we encourage our clients to nurture their well-being through tailored support services and activities.
Connect with community: Build supportive environments where everyone feels included. At WAG, we’re proud of the communities we create through our disability and mental health programs, where participants and staff work together to uplift and support each other.
Connect with others: Strong relationships are vital. Whether it’s family, friends, or fellow community members, making meaningful connections helps everyone feel valued. WAG facilitates these bonds through group activities, workshops, and events that encourage social engagement and support.
Connect with nature: Getting outside, unplugging, and embracing mindfulness can have significant benefits for mental health. Many of our programs, such as those offered at Honeybee Wellness Retreat, incorporate nature-based therapies that promote mental well-being.
Celebrate Mental Health Week with Wellness Australia Group
We encourage everyone to get involved in Queensland Mental Health Week by attending one of the many community events happening across the state. Whether it’s a local event, a workshop, or simply taking a mindful moment in nature, there are so many ways to participate and make a positive impact.
